How Does Weather Effect a Roof?

Weather is one of the big things that can cause damage to a roof but sometimes the effects are more subtle and harder to spot. So what are some of the ways that weather effects a roof?

Top of the list is water damage from the rain. This can cause the roofing materials to deteriorate and eventually leak. A good way to prevent this is to make sure that your gutters are clear and working properly so that the water can be diverted away from the house.

Another big weather related problem is high winds. This can cause the roofing materials to lift up or even blow off the house. In order to prevent this, you need to make sure that your roof is properly attached to the framing and that there are no weak spots.

The final consideration is temperature. Extremely hot or cold weather can cause the materials in the roof to expand or contract which can lead to leaks or other damage. To protect against this, you should have a roof that is appropriately sized for the climate where you live.

All of these factors are important to keep in mind when choosing a roofing material and when maintaining your roof. By taking into account the effects of weather, you can help to ensure that your roof will be in good condition for years to come.
